CULINARY MASTER JEAN DELPORT HEADS TO THE UK / 21 DECEMBER 2017
Executive Chef, Jean Delport, who has wowed Somerset West Diners at Benguela on Main with his Michelin worthy cuisine, has taken up the challenge to build and create a spectacular garden inspired fine dining experience at the recently purchased Leonardslee House & Gardens.
Delport, who is passionate about a natural environment and the sourcing of foods directly from nature hopes to create an outstanding experience with an aim of securing a Michelin star or two. He will be leaving Cape Town to continue his passion in the UK early in the new year.
Executive Chef, Jean Delport says “I am really excited about this new phase in my life and have always hoped for the opportunity to open a restaurant in the UK. The new restaurant will give me the perfect platform to cook the type of menu I have worked towards over the last twelve years”.

We didn’t know exactly where our meeting would take place, but we knew we wouldn’t end up in a conference room. Intimate, refreshing and something different – this is what my colleagues had in mind. When meeting with clients or business associates, the last thing you’d want is lack of privacy and the noise of an overworked espresso machine. We received word of a quaint little place just outside of Cape Town. Intimate, refreshing and something different, is what we were promised.
Making our way to Somerset West for a business meeting was out of the ordinary, the Mother City had many locations, but there was something about the name Benguela on Main that simply stuck with us.
We were greeted by eclectic artwork and elegant interior. Our server welcomed us with an inviting smile and took us up to The Taster when we mentioned we were looking for the perfect setting for a meeting.
